Volunteer Opportunities

Drivers for Foodbank

Foodbank Stock Control

Our food bank receives donations of food from individuals who place items in the collection boxes in stores. We also get surplus items donated by supermarkets themselves. In the lead up to Christmas, donations tend to increase.

We need reasonably fit and strong volunteers, with their own car to collect food regularly and unload it at the centre.

Volunteers can take on collections at regular times on regular days, or choose to be on call for any extra pick ups.

We need volunteers to join the team checking, sorting, weighing and packing away all the food donations. This ensures that it is safe to eat and the stock with the shortest dates gets used first.

Opportunities available on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

Foodbank Bag Packers

Trustee

Each Thursday before foodbank opens (at 1-3pm), we receive a list of all the clients who have been issued with vouchers. Each client has been asked questions about what they need, any dietary requirements and the number of people in the household. A suitable pick list is provided and volunteers pack the food bags with the relevant items. This is done late morning on Thursdays.

If you have a passion for doing the sort of work that we are involved in at SPCC and could bring professional experience such as keeping accounts, managing a business, or running a charity, we would like to hear from you. We will be looking for new trustees in the year ahead as some of the existing ones step down, having served the maximum term.

IT Training Tutors

Community Lunch Helpers

Learning new skills is good for mental health and wellbeing. Through our IT Training Room, we give people the opportunity to learn new skills and gain confidence, that will enhance their lives and improve their employability. To make this possible we need patient, experienced people, willing to share what they know with others.

Many people cannot afford a computer or have the internet at home. Could you offer the supervision and support to help people use the facilities at Stow Park?

Our community lunches are all about building community, overcoming isolation, having fun and a great meal in a warm space.

If you would like to help make this happen every Wednesday few would love to hear from you. The lunches are at 12.30pm.

We need cooks, bottle washers, welcomers and people to prepare some simple activities to get people chatting. Is this you?

DIY

Welcome/Receptionist

Are you experienced and competent with DIY? Perhaps you are a retired professional with some time on your hands and a desire to do something for the community? We always have jobs, small and not so small, that need doing. Could you help?

All sorts of people phone or pop in to the centre, with all kinds of needs and queries. We would love to have some volunteers who can help with those queries, tell them about the services we offer, put the kettle on and make a cuppa and generally give time to show someone cares.
