How to get a food parcel

Our foodbank works using a voucher referral system.

In order to provide the most appropriate help for the circumstances , we work with local referral partners. If they feel you are struggling to put food on the table, they will issue you with a foodbank voucher. The local agency can also provide long term support, if needed, to help address some of the issues behind the reasons for your crisis. We also offer friendly advice and signposting when you come for a parcel.

Our foodbank works with a number of different agencies, such as Citizens Advice, housing associations, and health visitors. To find out more about the agencies that hold our vouchers and how you can get help contact Newport & District Foodbank using their email address and phone number (This is different to Stow Park Community Centre’s number). This number is manned 9am-2pm Tuesdays &Thursdays  9.30-1pm. At other times, please leave a message and we will get back to you.

If you are in social housing your first place to go for a voucher is your landlord (e.g. Hedyn, Codi). If you have a private landlord or own your own home then contact the Citizen’s Advice Bureau.

Stow Park Community Centre Foodbank is open every Tuesday and Thursday for the collection of food parcels, between 10.30 and 12.30. Whilst the food parcels are made ready, we serve tea, coffee and biscuits.

Our parcels contain non-perishable foods (tins and packets). A food parcel is carefully designed to give  nutritionally balanced meals for at least three days. We also offer toiletries, baby food and nappies, if required.

Food Stocks

These are constantly being refreshed and supplied to the centre on an almost daily basis: several local supermarkets have collection boxes for the Foodbank, where the public can donate. Retailers donate surplus food. We also receive food donations from churches, community groups, businesses and individuals.

We gratefully receive any donations of cash, which are used to buy any items where stock is particularly low.
